What was the problem?
Our customer's goal was to launch a new development (an add-on for an existing product) as quickly as possible. The dimensions of the product to be developed were not ideally suited to the in-house manufacturing process. This meant that the new development should not place a strain on the company's own manufacturing resources, while at the same time accelerating the time-to-market cycle.
How was it resolved?
Our customer decided to work with two external partners (one partner for software and another for hardware) to implement the project. FMA Mechatronic Solutions was chosen as the hardware partner because, in addition to pure development work, our customer also wanted the selected development partner to be qualified as a long-term manufacturing partner.
What were the individual steps involved in the collaboration?
The collaboration between FMA Mechatronic Solutions and our customer comprised four steps
- Development of the prototype that meets the requirements of the customer specifications
- Prototype phase (4-5 units)
- zero-series phase
- series phase
The collaboration was characterized by very frequent communication (feedback loops), as all phases involved several development and feedback loops.
What was the result?
Thanks to a very fast development speed, our customer was able to present the new product to its customers within just under 12 months: from the initial idea to product launch and presentation at the trade fair: 11.5 months.
The product is now firmly established on the market as a product extension.
